Beloved TV Actor Dead at 69

Peter Spellos, a versatile actor known for his roles in the TV series “American Dreams” and the animated series “Transformers: Robots in Disguise,” passed away at the age of 69

Spellos’ younger brother, James Spellos, confirmed that he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, November 19, 2023. The actor died peacefully at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Born in Queens, New York, Spellos had a prolific career in entertainment, amassing over 150 acting credits. 

His notable roles included playing Gus, a production assistant on American Bandstand, in NBC’s “American Dreams” and voicing the character Sky-Byte in the animated series “Transformers: Robots in Disguise.” His voice acting talents were also showcased in “Eagle Riders,” where he voiced Cyberon alongside Bryan Cranston and Mona Marshall.

Spellos’ career extended beyond film and television, with voice roles in video games like Dragon’s Dogma and appearances in popular TV series such as “ER,” “NYPD Blue,” and “Yes Man.” His work in “Men in Black II,” where he played the character Motorman, was particularly memorable.

In addition to his acting career, Spellos was deeply involved in the theater and teaching. He founded the New Mercury Theatre Company in 2008 and served as the creative director of The Usual Suspects Improvisation Company. Spellos was also an instructor at The Artists Gym, sharing his expertise in acting and direction.

According to Jennifer Smith, one of Spellos’ acting students who had power of attorney, Spellos was surrounded by friends and family in his final days, receiving loving messages from fans worldwide. 

His passing was also noted by his friend and collaborator Fred Olen Ray, who paid tribute to Spellos on social media, highlighting his kindness and the breadth of their collaborative work.

In line with Peter Spellos’ wishes, there will be no religious service, and his body will be cremated. The family is organizing an online memorial to celebrate his life and legacy, with details to be announced later.

James expressed gratitude to those who cared for Peter during his final months and shared a humorous note about Peter’s wish to send his body to sea in a Viking ship.
