Dove Shack’s C-Knight, G-funk Legend, Dies at 52

Arnez Blount, better known as C-Knight from the influential G-funk group Dove Shack, has died. He passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, after complications from a stroke that was linked to his long-standing battle with diabetes. He was 52 years old.

C-Knight, originating from Long Beach, California, achieved fame with Dove Shack, instrumental in shaping the G-funk sound of the 1990s. Their debut album “This Is the Shack,” released in 1995, featured the hit “Summertime in the LBC,” a track that has remained popular over the years.

Blount suffered a stroke on October 18, 2023, during a diabetes treatment session. The stroke resulted in cardiac arrest, and he was placed on life support. His medical team eventually made the decision to remove life support.

The influence of Dove Shack in the hip-hop world, especially on the West Coast, was significant. Their album’s appearance on the Billboard 200 chart and their collaboration with Warren G on “Regulate… G Funk Era” are testaments to their impact.

Apart from his work with Dove Shack, C-Knight ventured into a solo career with the release of “Knight Time” in 2001, showcasing his passion and skill in hip-hop.

C-Knight, along with Dove Shack members Bo-Roc and 2Scoops, created a unique sound that became synonymous with their era and inspired many upcoming artists.

The legacy of C-Knight and Dove Shack is celebrated through their music, with “Summertime in the LBC” being a seasonal favorite.

The death of Blount has led to a resurgence in the popularity of Dove Shack’s music, with fans and artists alike streaming their tracks in tribute to the late rapper.
