A four-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by the family dog in Spokane, Washington, on Halloween night, October 31, 2023.
The Spokane Police Department indicated that the attack happened inside a home located at the intersection of N. Nevada St. and E. Walton Ave. around 8 p.m.
The situation escalated when the grandfather, in a desperate search for help, approached a neighbor, who was a nurse. Upon arrival, she was met with a distressing sight: the child, Colton Kline, in his grandmother’s arms, blood-soaked, with attempts to control the bleeding ongoing. Neighbors Roger Hammers and his girlfriend were at the scene and called 911.
Responding to the horrific scene, police officers and emergency crews found the boy with life-threatening injuries inflicted by the dog. They worked fervently to provide medical attention to the child, but, heartbreakingly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boy was quickly transported to a local hospital, but, sadly, he did not survive the sharp and blunt force injuries to his head and neck.
Police reports confirm that the dog involved in the attack was a pit bull mix. Family members, in their effort to defend the boy, caused significant injuries to the dog. Due to the grave nature of its wounds, the dog was put down at the site by the authorities.
It has been clarified by officials that the tragic incident did not occur in connection with any Halloween trick-or-treating activities. At present, the authorities have not released additional information regarding the family.
