An Alabama family is reeling after a domestic argument turned deadly on Sunday evening, October 29, 2023, resulting in the death of a mother and serious injuries to her young son, who heroically attempted to intervene.

Ashley Lynn McClung, 38, was killed by her boyfriend, Adam Christopher Narmore, 40, in a murder-suicide at their Sheffield, Alabama, apartment. The building manager said she had only lived there for about two weeks. The incident, which occurred on a quiet Sunday evening, shocked the community and devastated the family.

According to authorities, McClung and Narmore were involved in a heated altercation that escalated when Narmore armed himself with a .410 shotgun. During the confrontation, McClung’s 10-year-old son, Cayson McClung, bravely stepped in to protect his mother. Tragically, the young boy was shot in the face and arm by Narmore in the process. Despite his serious injuries, Cayson remained conscious, even walking across the hall to get help from neighbors, and was able to communicate with first responders on their arrival at the scene.

The Sheffield Police Department reported that Cayson was immediately taken to Keller Hospital and subsequently airlifted to a Birmingham hospital, where he underwent two surgeries. Doctors successfully removed bullet fragments from his face and worked diligently to save his injured arm. The young boy was reported to be in stable condition.

Emergency responders found McClung deceased at the scene. Narmore had taken his own life with the same weapon used in the attack. The bodies were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy for investigation.

Her family and friends remembered Ashley McClung as a devoted mother who was deeply involved in her children’s lives, attending their activities and sharing her love for the outdoors, including fishing and beach trips. Her community paid tribute to her spirit, recalling her love for singing and her generous nature.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support young Cayson and his family during this difficult time.
