Jamie Foxx, an Academy Award-winning actor, finds himself at the center of another legal dispute following accusations of sexual assault dating back to August 2015.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, alleges that Foxx engaged in inappropriate and non-consensual physical contact at Catch NYC, a rooftop bar and restaurant in Manhattan, New York.
The legal complaint, filed on November 22, 2023, describes an incident where a purportedly intoxicated Foxx forcibly took the woman to an isolated area of the rooftop, where he is accused of groping and making unwanted sexual advances.
Foxx strongly denies the charges, calling the lawsuit “frivolous.”
A spokesperson for Foxx said, ”The alleged incident never happened. In 2020, this individual filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Brooklyn.”
In her legal statement, Jane Doe accuses Foxx of touching her breasts underneath her clothing and making inappropriate remarks. The lawsuit further alleges Foxx’s non-consensual touching of her private parts. The incident is claimed to have been witnessed by a security guard, who allegedly failed to take action.
The lawsuit also targets Catch Hospitality Group and other related parties.
Filed under the provisions of New York’s Adult Survivors Act, this lawsuit enables the pursuit of legal action for sexual abuse incidents even after the statute of limitations has lapsed, providing adult survivors a chance to seek legal redress.
Jamie Foxx, a multifaceted personality in the entertainment industry, is known for his acting in both film and television, as well as his roles as a singer, songwriter, comedian, and talk show host. His portrayal of Ray Charles in “Ray” (2004) garnered him an Oscar for Best Actor, and he is also known for his performances in “Django Unchained” (2012) and “Collateral” (2004). Foxx’s television presence includes his own sitcom, “The Jamie Foxx Show,” which aired from 1996 to 2001, and he has received three Grammy Awards for his musical achievements.
This lawsuit stands in stark contrast to Foxx’s established public image and emphasizes the ongoing issue of sexual misconduct within the entertainment industry. The plaintiff, Jane Doe, is seeking reparation for pain, emotional trauma, anxiety, humiliation, and medical expenses incurred as a result of the alleged incident.
