Shooting at Ohio Walmart: 4 Injured

On the evening of November 20, 2023, a gunman entered a Walmart store at 3360 Pentagon Blvd., Beavercreek, Ohio, around 8:35 pm and began a shooting spree that left four shoppers wounded and the shooter dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Beavercreek Police Department, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, responded to the emergency. No shots were fired by police. They secured the area, confirming that there was no longer an active threat.

Jim Smith, an employee at the Subway inside the Walmart, reported hearing shots around 8:30 pm as he was closing up for the night.

Four adults, including three females and one male, were victims of this shooting. Three of them are in critical condition, while the fourth suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to area hospitals, including Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, for medical attention.

Catherine Morris, a spokesperson for Kettering Health, the parent company of Soin Medical Center, confirmed the reception of three patients but did not disclose their conditions due to patient privacy concerns.

The identity of the shooter has not been revealed as of the latest updates. A witness posting on social media described the shooter as a tall, young white male armed with a rifle.

Walmart released a statement expressing their heartbreak over the incident and their close cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

This incident has stirred memories of a previous shooting at the same Walmart location, where Beavercreek police fatally shot John Crawford III in 2014.

Wright State University, located near the Walmart store, issued a campus-wide safety alert, advising caution and avoiding the area.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
