A Winter Springs, Florida, mother of four was found dead in a storage unit in Apopka, Florida.

Responding to a distress call regarding a foul odor from a storage unit, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, aged 37, with multiple gunshot wounds to her neck on November 18, 2023.

Rucker was last seen alive on November 11, 2023, leaving her residence in Winter Springs with Cory Hill, her 51-year-old estranged husband. The disappearance led to a widespread search effort involving her family and local law enforcement.

Hill, now the prime suspect in the case, was arrested for a separate incident involving shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her family on November 12, the day after Rucker went missing. He is currently being held in jail, denied bail.

During a press conference, Sheriff John Mina stated that Hill is suspected of shooting Rucker and then leaving her body in the storage unit, which is registered in his name. It is expected that Hill will face charges for Rucker’s murder.

Hill’s criminal history is significant, including a conviction for second-degree murder in 1992 in Virginia, for which he served a 20-year prison term.

Rucker’s sudden disappearance and death have left a lasting impact on her family and the community. A vigil was organized in her memory, and a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support her four children, with her 18-year-old son taking on the role of caregiver for his siblings.

The investigation into Rucker’s death continues, with the sheriff’s office yet to release details on the motive or specific circumstances. They are appealing to the public for any relevant information.
