A fatal car accident occurred in Carroll County, Maryland, leading to the tragic loss of four individuals, including two grandparents and their grandson. This incident took place in the late afternoon of November 4, 2023.
The sequence of events unfolded on Liberty Road. Charles Black III, aged 72, was at the wheel of a Chevrolet Equinox. Accompanying him were Barbara Black, 69, his wife; Debbie Hill, 63, Barbara’s sister; their grandson, Gage Black, 17; and 15-year-old Phillip Ceresa. The Chevrolet halted to execute a left turn onto Skidmore Road. In a critical turn of events, the Chevrolet was rear-ended by a Saturn, driven by 25-year-old Austin Walker. This collision thrust the Equinox into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit by a Ford F-350, operated by 59-year-old Jeffrey Burdette from Mt. Airy.
The aftermath was devastating. Charles Black III, Barbara Black, and Debbie Hill were declared dead at the crash site. Gage Black and Phillip Ceresa were urgently transported by air to a trauma center in Baltimore. Unfortunately, Gage Black succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
As of now, the collision remains under detailed investigation. Early findings by law enforcement indicate that impaired driving was not a factor in this incident.
In the wake of this calamity, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to alleviate the financial burden of medical and funeral expenses for the victims’ families.
