New Hampshire Couple Murdered By Man in Woods

In April 2022, a heartbreaking incident happened in Concord, New Hampshire. Stephen Reid, 67, and his wife, Djeswende ‘Wendy’ Reid, 66, were fatally shot while near their home.

The couple, recognized for their contributions to humanitarian causes, were walking nearby their home when they met their tragic end. Investigators found their bodies later in the woods, concealed by leaves and branches. This discovery began a large police investigation.

Early in their search, authorities interviewed a man going by the name “Arthur Kelly.” The man was soon identified as 27-year-old Logan Clegg. He had been camping not far from where the Reids lived for some months. The presence of many Mountain Dew cans with him gave him the initial nickname “Mountain Dew Man” by the police. As authorities started closing in on him, Clegg destroyed his camp by fire and tried to flee the state.

Using both traditional detective techniques and technology, law enforcement traced Clegg. His buying records and phone activity took them to the South Burlington Public Library in Vermont. They arrested him there on October 12, 2022. When captured, Clegg had a one-way airline ticket to Berlin, Germany, a counterfeit passport, and a firearm.

In court, prosecutors presented evidence linking Clegg to the crime scene. The bullets and shell casings at the scene were the same type as the gun Clegg had when arrested.

But the defense had their arguments ready. They said that the tests on the bullets weren’t definite. They also suggested that Clegg was running because of past criminal acts in Utah, not the murders.

Before the New Hampshire incident, Clegg had a criminal record. He had links to other crimes in different states. In Spokane, Washington, in 2018, he was associated with a death that was ruled self-defense, leading to no charges. Furthermore, in 2020 in Utah, he was arrested for stealing from a store and had talked about his strong feelings against being locked up.

After deliberating for two days, the jury declared Logan Clegg guilty of all charges. This decision brought some comfort to the grieving Reid family. The couple’s son spoke out, expressing his relief and the hope that his parents’ good works would be remembered.

Now, Clegg is waiting for his punishment, set for December 15. He’s being kept at the Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord, New Hampshire, without bail.
