An 18-year-old female from Mount Washington, Kentucky, is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a police officer in the face with a screwdriver. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, November 4, according to local law enforcement.
Officer Mark Bramer, a member of the Mount Washington Police Department, was beginning his morning shift around 6 a.m. when he approached Lindsey Duvall Park to unlock the gates for the day. It was there that he encountered Kenzie Vanarsdale, who was already inside the park.
According to arrest citations and local news reports, Officer Bramer saw Vanarsdale on the other side of the gate and questioned her. As he was obtaining information, Vanarsdale suddenly fled the scene. Officer Bramer pursued her, announcing his authority and instructing her to stop. Vanarsdale stopped running and raised her hands, appearing to surrender.
However, as Officer Bramer started the process of handcuffing her, Vanarsdale reportedly turned around and attacked him with a screwdriver, striking him above his left eye. The citations suggest Vanarsdale might have intended to cause serious physical harm or even death.
After the altercation, Officer Bramer was treated for his injury at a local hospital and has since been released.
Vanarsdale was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder of a police officer. Details of the case remain under investigation, and Vanarsdale is being held in custody. The bond set for her release is reported to be $500,000, according to Bullitt County Jail records.
The motivation behind the incident and the sequence of events leading up to the stabbing have not been fully disclosed. It is also not clear whether Vanarsdale had legal representation at the time of the reports or how she intended to plead to the charges.
