A 32-year-old high school teacher from Norcross, Georgia, was arrested on November 3, 2023, and charged in connection with the 2020 death of her two-year-old child.
Kianna Aiesha Renee Davis and her co-accused, Kiyon Devoy Benton, are charged with several offenses, including malice murder, felony murder, cruelty to children, aggravated assault, and failing to provide medical care. The incident occurred between the dates of November 15-17, 2020, in Houston County, Georgia.
The two accused were indicted on October 17, 2023, but it is unclear why Davis was not arrested until last weekend.
According to court documents, Davis and Benton are accused of inflicting severe physical harm on Karter Ambrose, using an unknown object, which led to injuries to his liver, pancreas, intestines, and kidney. The charges against them include not seeking immediate medical attention for his injuries, a factor that significantly contributed to the severity of the toddler’s condition.
A Houston County judge set bond for Davis at $15,000 with the conditions that she has no contact with Benton and house arrest at her grandfather’s house.
Benton is reportedly a friend but not the father of Karter. According to the District Attorney, Benton has not been arrested yet.
Davis, a teacher at Seckinger High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, had been away from her teaching position for about two weeks before her arrest, with the school’s principal confirming her employment.
The community of Norcross and the broader Gwinnett County area have been deeply affected by this incident.
