Two Charged in ATM Shooting of Illinois Mother

In Worth, Illinois, a 32-year-old mother of two, Jonnie Angel Klein, was fatally shot while using an ATM drive-through at a Chase bank. The incident took place on November 5, 2023, leading to first-degree murder charges against Tamara Jailynn Johnson, 22, and Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, 23, from Harvey, Illinois.

The investigation following Klein’s shooting led to the identification and charging of the Johnsons. They are suspected of being involved in multiple armed robberies across the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. Evidence linked to these crimes, including firearms, connected them to Klein’s shooting.

Klein, remembered by her family as a caring mother and caretaker, was withdrawing money to pay her bills when she was caught in the fatal armed robbery attempt. She was shot in the chest during the robbery but managed to drive away. She was found unresponsive a few blocks from the bank.

The suspects’ involvement in several similar crimes suggests a consistent pattern of criminal activity.

Known for her hardworking nature, Klein balanced multiple jobs to support her two children, aged 10 and 15, and also took care of her mother, who is battling cancer.

In response to this case, which has cast a spotlight on armed robbery and gun violence issues, local police are increasing security measures at ATM locations. They are calling for public vigilance and reporting of any suspicious activities, especially considering the ongoing investigation into the connected robberies.
