Two Tourists Drown in Hawaii

A 57-year-old Nevada man lost his life while vacationing in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii.

On November 6, 2023, Ronald Nicasio was retrieved unresponsive from the waters off Hanalei Bay by local bystanders.

Emergency services, including lifeguards and firefighters, responded to the scene, attempting CPR and employing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in a bid to resuscitate him. Nicasio was transported to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa’a, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The incident occurred about 150 yards from the lifeguard tower at Hanalei Bay. The Ocean Safety Bureau personnel were alerted to the situation after witnessing bystanders calling for help.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Carmina Nicasio, the victim’s wife, with funeral expenses.

In a separate incident on the same day, another visitor, 58-year-old Rex Shayne Queen from Seattle, Washington, was found unresponsive while scuba diving off Koloa Landing in Poipu, Kauai.

Like Nicasio, Queen was brought ashore and pronounced dead after CPR efforts failed to revive him. He was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where his death was confirmed. No signs of foul play were reported in either of the incidents.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
