On Saturday, November 25, 2023, 17-year-old Hannah Layton was fatally shot in the head at a home in Richmond, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered Layton’s lifeless body inside the house.

The suspect, a 16-year-old boy whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, has been arrested and charged with her murder. The shooting took place in the 2100 block of Crestwood Drive, as confirmed by the Richmond Police Department, where reportedly the suspect also lived.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera picked up what sounded like a gunshot at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Police arrived right away.

Hannah’s mother, Patricia Layton, in a statement, revealed that her daughter was shot in the back of the head and died instantly. The grief-stricken mother expressed her desire for justice, noting her limited knowledge about the suspect, only that he hailed from Richmond and that she didn’t approve of her daughter’s friends. The suspect is reportedly in custody at the Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center, awaiting further proceedings.

According to initial investigations, Hannah and the 16-year-old were the only people present in the home at the time of the shooting. The suspect, who remained at the scene, informed police that he and Hannah were friends.

In the wake of her daughter’s untimely death, Patricia Layton has been vocal about her anguish and the need for answers. Through social media posts and interviews, she has been reaching out for community support and has started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses.

Patricia Layton’s latest post mentioned that high schoolers are now coming forward with information that she hopes will aid in achieving justice for her daughter.
