A 28-year-old man from Baltimore, Maryland has been charged with first and second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and related gun charges following the shooting death of his two-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in the Northwest District of Baltimore.
The Baltimore Police Department disclosed that an investigation had established Christopher Gamble as responsible for the shooting, which took place in his home on Park Heights Avenue.
According to police reports two-year-old Charlee Gamble suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Sinai Hospital shortly after 7 pm.
Police documents indicate that the father, upon arrival, handed his critically injured daughter over to medical personnel and left the hospital. He returned to the hospital wearing a different outfit and was accompanied by the child’s mother. The young girl later died from her injuries at the hospital.
Gamble had admitted to purchasing a gun illegally for $600. He told homicide detectives that he had left this gun on the TV stand in his bedroom, the same room where the shooting occurred.
During the investigation, he gave conflicting accounts of the events leading to his daughter’s death. Initially, he implied that Charlee had shot herself, but later acknowledged being in the bedroom at the time of the shooting.
Police found no blood evidence or additional firearms when they executed a search warrant at Gamble’s home and vehicle. He expressed uncertainty about the whereabouts of the gun.
Gamble is currently being held at Central Booking and is charged with a total of 12 counts. He was ordered to be held without bail by a court commissioner.
