Tim Dorsey, an acclaimed author known for his crime-comedy novels featuring Serge A. Storms, has passed away at 62.

Dorsey, celebrated for his unique blend of crime and comedy in literature, died at his residence in Islamorada, Florida, on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Details regarding the cause of his death remain undisclosed but he had had recent health problems.

Born in Indiana, but living in Florida since the age of one, Dorsey had established Florida as both his home and the setting for his widely read novels. His upbringing in Riviera Beach, Florida, significantly influenced his literary path. He was an alumnus of Auburn University, after which he pursued a career in journalism. He gained experience as a police and court reporter in Alabama and Tampa, Florida, which later enriched his novels with authentic depictions of Florida’s criminal elements and folklore.

Dorsey’s venture into fiction started with “Florida Roadkill,” published in 1999. This book marked the introduction of Serge Storms, a character who evolved from a villain to a beloved protagonist in Dorsey’s narratives. Over the course of 26 novels, Storms, alongside his companion Coleman, journeyed through Florida, delving into the state’s history and culture, all woven with Dorsey’s signature satirical wit.

Dorsey’s novels, a mix of dark comedy and murder, garnered a diverse readership. His astute observations and satirical commentary on Florida’s unique quirks were well-received.
