A 56-year-old tourist from Japan died following a bungee jump from the renowned Macau Tower on December 3, 2023, after the individual had completed a jump from a height of 764 feet.

In southern China’s autonomous region of Macau, the Macau Tower, an iconic structure standing at 1,100 feet, is famous among adrenaline-seekers. It is home to the highest commercial bungee jump in the world, annually attracting a large number of thrill-seekers. The jump, operated by Skypark by AJ Hackett, has a price tag of around $360.

Soon after completing his jump, the tourist experienced severe shortness of breath. He was transported to Conde S. Januário Hospital in Macau by emergency services, where he was subsequently declared dead. Reports from local media noted the absence of visible external injuries on the tourist.

Skypark, which oversees the jump activity, requires jumpers to report any pre-existing health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, elevated blood pressure, diabetes, or past surgical procedures. This requirement is a key aspect of Skypark’s rigorous safety protocols. The company, which has managed over four million jumps worldwide, emphasizes its dedication to high safety standards for both its customers and staff.

In addition to extreme sports, the Macau Tower features a variety of attractions. These include two observation decks offering panoramic views, and several amenities such as restaurants, a cinema, a casino, and a shopping area, making it a versatile destination for tourists.
