Renowned Journalist Dies at 42

Emily Matson, a popular news anchor and reporter with Erie News Now in Erie, Pennsylvania, died at the age of 42. Her parent company confirmed the news on Monday, December 11. An investigation has revealed that her cause of death was suicide. Citing a report from the Erie County Coroner’s Office, the Erie Times-News said the newscaster was fatally struck by a train near her home at around 12:45 a.m.

Matson, who had been a fixture in Erie’s news broadcasting for nearly 20 years, was celebrated for her dedication to journalism and her connection to the Erie community.

Matson’s journey in the field of journalism began in the early 2000s as an intern at Erie’s WJET-TV. Her passion and dedication to the profession led her to WICU, where she first served as a producer for the morning show for two years before moving into an on-air reporting role.
