Ralph Cirella, a prominent personality in the entertainment world and the trusted stylist and friend of radio host Howard Stern, died on December 5, 2023, at 58. His death occurred during a treatment procedure for a rare lymphoma.

Cirella, born on April 20, 1965, started his journey with Howard Stern in 1985, initially connecting via a call to Stern’s radio show. He became a pivotal member of “The Howard Stern Show,” in the roles of Stern’s personal stylist, wardrobe consultant, and set designer. Cirella was also instrumental in introducing Stern to Beth Ostrosky, who later became Stern’s wife.

Stern, announcing Cirella’s death on his SiriusXM show, referred to him as a dear and reliable friend, underscoring a relationship that spanned over four decades. Stern expressed his sorrow over Cirella’s death, particularly emphasizing Cirella’s delay in seeking medical care for his illness, which Stern described as responsive to treatment.

In addition to his association with Stern, Cirella had a diverse career in entertainment, working as a makeup artist and costume designer, and playing a significant role in defining the visual style of Stern’s shows from 1989 to 2007.

Actor John Stamos also paid respects to Cirella, reminiscing about their friendship dating back to the 1990s.

Cirella’s initial interaction with Stern’s show was not only a pivotal career moment but also the beginning of a lasting friendship with Stern. His initial phone call, requesting a Connie Francis Christmas song for his mother, marked the onset of a significant professional and personal relationship. Cirella was recognized for his humor and his special bond with Stern, illustrated by a “secret language” that highlighted their close connection.

Despite his professional success, Cirella’s health issues became a significant concern. Stern, in his announcement, pointed out that Cirella had neglected to seek timely medical treatment, resulting in serious complications. The illness, a rare form of lymphoma, was noted as treatable, suggesting possible different outcomes with earlier medical intervention.

In memory of Cirella, friends and colleagues, such as Stern and Stamos, are expressing their sorrow and sharing recollections. Cirella is remembered as a unique and irreplaceable personality, his absence leaving a profound gap in a show and a community where he had been a central presence for many years.
