Three Young Lives Lost in South Dakota Car Wreck

In the early hours of December 9, 2023, a fatal car crash near Beresford, South Dakota, claimed the lives of three young individuals aged 18, 19, and 20.

The car crash, occurring roughly 10 miles northwest of Beresford, has resulted in vehicle theft charges for a 20-year-old male, the crash’s lone survivor. Discovered by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office following a report of a stolen vehicle, the wreck was located around 5:37 a.m. at 291st Street near 468th Ave.

A 2014 Ram 1500 Sport, which was heading east, exited the road, flew over a driveway, landed in a ditch, and rolled over. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of a 19-year-old female, an 18-year-old male, and another male aged 20, all pronounced dead at the site.

The surviving 20-year-old male allegedly left the scene on foot and later stole a vehicle from a nearby dairy farm. He was found in Beresford with serious but survivable injuries and was hospitalized, facing charges for underage drinking and vehicle theft.

The ongoing investigation, led by multiple law enforcement agencies including the South Dakota Highway Patrol and local police departments, aims to determine the driver during the crash.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has called for public assistance in gathering information on this case, highlighting the serious implications of road safety breaches and illegal behaviors such as vehicle theft and underage drinking.
