Tennessee Titans tight end Frank Wycheck, celebrated for the “Music City Miracle,” has died at the age of 52. On December 9, 2023, a tragic fall at his Chattanooga, Tennessee home led to Wycheck being found unresponsive.
Wycheck’s distinguished NFL career, beginning in 1993, included playing for Washington and the Houston Oilers, later the Tennessee Titans. His Titan tenure is etched in football history.
Highlighted by three Pro Bowl selections (1998-2000) and ranking fourth in tight end receptions at retirement, Wycheck’s career stats are impressive: 5,126 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns over 155 games. His achievements led to inductions into the Titans’ Ring of Honor and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
The 1999 “Music City Miracle” against the Buffalo Bills, where his lateral resulted in a last-second touchdown, is iconic in NFL history. Following his NFL career, Wycheck turned to sports broadcasting but retired in 2017 due to head injury complications.
Amy Adams Strunk, the Titans controlling owner, expressed profound sadness, acknowledging Wycheck’s significant role and popularity. He is survived by his daughters, Deanna and Madison, and three grandchildren.
