On November 30, Von Miller, a linebacker for the Buffalo Bills, surrendered to police in Glenn Heights, Texas, following an arrest warrant related to an alleged assault on a pregnant woman, who is the mother of his children. The incident, taking place in Dallas, has heightened interest due to Miller’s prominent role in the NFL.
A call to Dallas police on November 29 reported a verbal argument at a condominium in Uptown Dallas. Police records state that the altercation between Miller and the woman, who is six weeks pregnant, turned physical, resulting in minor injuries to the woman, who did not seek hospital care.
Investigations reveal that the dispute involved travel plans, with accusations of Miller shoving the woman, applying pressure to her neck, pulling her hair, and damaging her laptop. The unidentified victim provided the police with a video of the altercation and texts regarding her pregnancy.
34-year-old Miller, hailing from DeSoto, Texas, turned himself in at the Glenn Heights Police Department and was later moved to the DeSoto Regional Jail. He secured his release by posting a $5,000 bond.
The charge against Miller is “Assault of a Pregnant Person,” a significant legal offense in Texas, categorized as a third-degree felony. Miller faces a potential prison sentence of 2 to 10 years and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
The incident has prompted reactions from both the Buffalo Bills and the NFL, with both entities affirming their ongoing information-gathering efforts. The NFL’s strong stance against domestic violence might result in a suspension of up to six games for Miller, in line with league policies.
Miller’s football career includes eight Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro acknowledgments. He played at Texas A&M in college and has been part of Super Bowl victories with the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams, earning MVP honors in Super Bowl 50. Outside of football, Miller is the host of “The Voncast” on Bleacher Report.
This situation has sparked a broader conversation on domestic violence in the realm of professional sports, potentially influencing Miller’s future in the NFL depending on the investigation’s results. The Dallas police are currently leading the investigation.
