In a quiet corner of Robertson County, Kentucky, an alarming incident unfolded on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Kentucky State Police were called to a house engulfed in flames on Oak Ridge Road in Mayslick, at around 3:30 p.m.

What began as a response to a house fire rapidly escalated into a criminal investigation with disturbing undertones.

An Initial inquiry at the scene indicated that people might be inside the burning structure. However, the intensity of the fire and logistical challenges, including the lack of nearby water sources, hindered the firefighting efforts. It wasn’t until around 9 p.m. that emergency crews could safely enter the premises.

Inside the charred remains, first responders found three deceased adults, each with gunshot wounds.

The Kentucky State Police, spearheading the investigation, disclosed that among the dead, two appeared to have been shot by another, while the third victim bore a self-inflicted wound. This evidence hinted at a possible double-murder suicide scenario.

The investigative team, led by Trooper David Jones, revealed that a man, believed to be in his forties, resided in the home with his parents.

Neighbors described the family as relatively private, noting their move to the area to escape the bustle of a larger city.

The community, known for its close-knit nature, expressed shock and concern over the incident. Brian Barham, a local resident, recounted hearing sounds akin to a car door and dogs barking before noticing the fire.

Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased, citing the need to notify out-of-state family members.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was deliberately set from within the house, potentially by the man before turning the gun on himself. However, these details remain part of an ongoing investigation, with the Kentucky State Police working meticulously to unravel the full story behind this unsettling event.

The Kentucky State Police have appealed to the public for any relevant information while continuing to analyze evidence collected at the scene.
