Aldi Employee Shot Dead in Front of Horrified Shoppers

On Monday, January 15, 2024,  at an Aldi supermarket in Mörfelden-Walldorf, south of Frankfurt, Germany, a 38-year-old employee known as  Aysel I. was killed in a shooting carried out by her ex-boyfriend, known as Plamen P., aged 48.

Aysel, a Bulgarian woman of Turkish descent, had been living in Germany for 13 years. She had been in a relationship with Plamen for just five months before they separated six months ago during a holiday in their homeland of Bulgaria.

Their breakup marked the beginning of a terrifying ordeal for Aysel as Plamen started stalking her relentlessly.

She had reported him to the police on multiple occasions, hired a lawyer, and obtained a restraining order against him.

The seriousness of the situation was evident as Aysel had reportedly warned people that she feared for her safety, stating, “One day, I’ll go to work and won’t come home. He will come and kill me.”

On January 15th, at about 7:15 p.m., Plamen entered the Aldi supermarket where she was working.

An argument ensued, and within moments, he pulled out a semi-automatic gun and fired multiple shots, striking her in the head. He then turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

The gruesome incident happened in front of dozens of shocked shoppers and employees.

The victim had worked at Aldi for a year.

The suspect had been scheduled to attend a court hearing on February 15th regarding an alleged assault on Aysel.

The investigation into the shooting continues, with authorities working to understand the circumstances leading up to the shooting and how Plamen acquired the firearm used in the attack.
