An ordinary firewood delivery in Fort Worth, Texas, ended in a heartbreaking loss of life.
The victim, Scotty Jackson, a 51-year-old delivery man, was savagely assaulted and killed by a naked man, 27-year-old Chrisantus Omondi, on January 13, as stated in a police report.
Known for his diligent and friendly demeanor, Jackson was in the process of completing a firewood delivery in anticipation of a cold snap when he was discovered dead. His body, found in a front yard, bore severe neck and head injuries.
Omondi, who was renting via Airbnb, confronted Jackson and the homeowner, who were offloading the firewood. Omondi insinuated he owned the property and ordered them to leave. Despite Jackson’s reassurances and the homeowner’s protests, Omondi turned violent. He used a log to attack Jackson, inflicting fatal head wounds. The homeowner was also assaulted but managed to flee and alert authorities.
Police arrived to find Jackson in a critical condition. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save him. Meanwhile, Omondi had retreated to his rented Airbnb, where he threatened another tenant. Upon the arrival of the police, Omondi exhibited aggression and resistance but was eventually overpowered with a taser and apprehended.
Omondi now stands accused of murder, aggravated assault against a security officer, and obstruction of justice. His bail has been set at over $300,000.
This is not Omondi’s first encounter with the law. Previous records show that he once held a security guard at gunpoint in Tarrant County, Texas, and has a history of evading arrest.
Dealing with their profound loss, Jackson’s family is seeking justice and a fitting tribute for a man who, they say, “deserved so much better.” Jackson’s daughter, Kasey Deleon, spoke of her father as a man devoted to ensuring others had sufficient firewood, highlighting his compassionate character and commitment to serving his community. The delivery that cost him his life was meant to provide warmth to another family.
