A 23-year-old mother and her young son were victims of a violent home invasion on Staten Island, New York City. The attack occurred on Monday, January 22 near Hygeia Place and Boyd Street in the Stapleton Heights neighborhood.
The mother, who was at home with her three-year-old son, faced a horrifying ordeal when two intruders, a man and a woman, forced their way into her home around 2:45 pm. The duo launched an unprovoked assault on the young mother, brutally punching her before one of them stabbed her in the leg. The attackers then ransacked the home, stealing cash, a cellphone, a social security card, a wallet, and an EBT card.
The victim, severely injured, was taken to Richmond University Medical Center. Thankfully, she was listed in stable condition following the attack. Her toddler son was unharmed during the incident.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) is actively pursuing the suspects, who are still at large. Surveillance footage obtained by the NYPD shows the assailants walking on a snow-covered sidewalk, giving a glimpse into their appearances. The male suspect is described as about 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants, and a black ski mask. The female suspect is also of a dark complexion, with long braids, and appears to be wearing a black sweater, black sweatpants, and black and white sneakers.
This alarming incident in Staten Island comes close on the heels of another home invasion in the Manor Heights neighborhood in December 2023, where a woman and her five-year-old daughter were attacked in an attempt to steal money and jewelry. No arrests have been made in that case.
The NYPD continues to investigate the case and is seeking information from the public. Anyone with knowledge about the incident or the suspects is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
