A tragic incident unfolded on Christmas night in Houston, Texas when a couple lost their lives in an apparent murder-suicide. The Houston Police Department (HPD) reported that the couple left behind three young daughters, who were unhurt in the incident.
The ordeal took place at a residence on Grasilla Street, located south of Highway 90 in Houston.
HPD responded to a call from the home at approximately 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police officers found a man and woman in an upstairs bedroom.
The woman, 34, had been shot multiple times, while the man, aged 43, had a single gunshot wound.
The victims’ family members identified them as Roberto and Fanny Hernandez, as reported by KHOU 11.
When the shooting occurred, the couple’s three daughters, aged six, nine, and 14, were present in the house. One of the children reported hearing an argument followed by several gunshots.
Lieutenant J.P. Horelica stated that relatives who arrived at the scene soon after the incident will provide temporary care for the girls until a more stable arrangement can be made.
Members of the community expressed shock and sadness over the incident, which took place in what was known as the family’s “happy place.”
Police recovered a firearm they believe to be the murder weapon. The investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication of any further threat to the public.
This incident underscores the growing concern about domestic and family violence in the Houston area. Local resources such as the Houston Area Women’s Center and the Family Time Crisis Center offer 24-hour hotlines for victims of domestic violence.
