New Homeowners Find Human Head in Freezer

A human head was found in a freezer outside a recently sold home in Grand Junction, Colorado, sparking an investigation into a potential homicide. The grim discovery occurred late last week at a property on the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue.

Responding to a call about a suspicious situation on Friday, January 12 the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene.

The new owners were cleaning up around the yard and had posted online about free items from the previous owners. When people who came to pick up the freezer opened it, they found a black bag inside, and a head fell out.

According to a neighbor, a mother and son had lived in the home before and they moved out the day the house was sold.

Authorities have since verified that the freezer contained a human head, as well as human hands, propelling the case into the realm of a homicide investigation. However, details about the investigation remain scant, with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office withholding more information. They have stressed that this appears to be an isolated incident, alleviating concerns about any ongoing threat to public safety.

This unusual and concerning find has captured considerable local attention, raising numerous questions. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has yet to release any details about the identity of the victim or the cause and manner of death.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation with sensitivity, prioritizing respect for the victim and their family.
