Popular Rapper’s Brother Gunned Down

Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, 47, the elder brother of prominent rapper Yo Gotti, was fatally shot in a recent incident in Memphis, Tennessee.

The shooting occurred outside Perignons Restaurant and Event Center on Winchester Road at around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, where a  family gathering was being held after the funeral of Mims’ relative Eric Eugene Bovan.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds as he exited the restaurant and was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another individual was critically wounded and subsequently airlifted to a trauma center for urgent treatment.

The Memphis Police Department is currently investigating the shooting. Memphis Deputy Police Chief Paul Wright confirmed that the investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing.

Wright was questioned about the possibility of a link between the death of Mims and the 2021 killing of  Memphis rapper Young Dolph, who had a history of rivalry with Yo Gotti. Young Dolph was fatally shot near a local cookie store, which is situated just a short distance, approximately 14 minutes away, from the location where Mims was shot and killed.

Wright said that the investigation is in the preliminary stage and that a connection to the 2021 shooting has not been established. He added that no suspects have been identified yet, and it is believed that the shooting was a targeted attack

Big Jook was known for his involvement in the Collective Music Group (CMG) business, a record label founded by his brother Yo Gotti, 42,whose real name is Mario Mims. His role at CMG involved promoting artists and participating in music videos.

Yo Gotti, who began his rap career with the album “Youngsta’s On a Come Up” in 1996, has not publicly commented on his brother’s death. The rapper is renowned for his work and collaborations with various artists, including Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert, and Kanye West.
