Remains of Missing Florida Mom Found Near Disney World

The decade-long disappearance of Sandra Lemire, a mother from Florida, has finally reached a tragic resolution near the globally famous Disney World in Florida.

Lemire, a 47-year-old woman from Orlando, who disappeared in 2012, was discovered drowned in a pond, in her vehicle, close to Interstate 4 near the Walt Disney World exit in Kissimmee, Florida on Sunday, December 31, 2023.

The discovery was made by a volunteer search group, Sunshine State Sonar, who shared the information on social media platforms.

On May 8, 2012, Sandra Lemire left her grandmother’s residence in Orlando, Florida, in a 2004 Ford Freestar minivan. She was going to meet a man she had met through an online dating platform. Despite confirming her arrival in Kissimmee to her grandmother, Lemire failed to make the expected call to signal her return, which led to her subsequent disappearance.

The worry for Lemire’s safety grew due to her diabetic condition and the fact that she didn’t have her insulin with her. Pauline Varner, Lemire’s grandmother, recalled the pain of uncertainty about her granddaughter’s fate and remarked on Lemire’s dependability and the untypical nature of her disappearance.

The recent discovery of Lemire’s vehicle and remains by Sunshine State Sonar has offered a poignant closure to her family, particularly her son, Timothy Lemire from Michigan.

Overcome with a combination of relief and grief, Timothy expressed his appreciation towards the search team on Facebook for their crucial role in solving the long-standing enigma surrounding his mother’s disappearance. He also speculated in the post that his mother may have taken an exit ramp a little too quickly and gone straight into the water.

Sandra Lemire was last spotted driving away from a Denny’s restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida, leaving no trace until the recent discovery. The Orlando, Florida police had cleared the man she met of any involvement in her disappearance. The individual asserted they separated after their meeting, and the police accepted his account.

The recovered remains have yet to be officially confirmed as those of Sandra Lemire. This task of identification is the responsibility of the medical examiner’s office.

The find marks another successful recovery by Sunshine State Sonar, a non-profit established in 2022. The organization has been recognized for recovering several bodies since its foundation.

Their recent efforts were informed by additional data provided by the Orlando, Florida police, leading to the targeted search that revealed the submerged minivan in a drainage pond.
