Son of Beauty Industry Icon Found Dead in Swimming Pool

Angus Mitchell, a prominent figure in the beauty industry and son of famed hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has passed away at the age of 53.

His death was confirmed in various reports stating he was discovered in his Honolulu, Hawaii, home’s swimming pool.

Officers were called to the scene on the morning of January 3, 2024, with early indications pointing towards accidental drowning. The official cause of death is pending.

Angus Mitchell played a significant role in the beauty sector, taking after his father’s legacy. Alongside his father, he co-founded John Paul Mitchell Systems in 1980.

When his father died of pancreatic cancer in 1989, also at 53, Angus inherited his shares in the company and its related schools. His hairstyling career was deeply shaped by his father’s teachings.

Before making his mark in Beverly Hills, California, Angus spent significant years honing his craft in Hawaii.

Angus established the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills in 2010, enhancing his stature in the beauty world. Beyond hairstyling, Angus was a respected educator, model, and spokesperson for MITCH, a men’s brand under the JPMS umbrella.

Angus, known for his dedication to both family and profession, was married three times. His first wife was Michelle Raab, followed by Sian, with whom he had a son named Dylan, and his most recent wife, Mara.

The evening before his unexpected death, Angus was seen enjoying Hawaiian music with friends at his home in a video shared on Instagram.
