In Quiroga, Michoacan, Mexico, a 19-year-old man, identified only as Sebastian, was arrested for decapitating his sister, Julieta, 26.
On Saturday, December 30, 2023, Witnesses reported seeing Sebastian in a state of intoxication, walking with Julieta’s severed head in broad daylight near a government-run clinic.
The police were alerted by bystanders and located Sebastian near the clinic, arresting him without incident. A rifle was also confiscated from the suspect at the time of arrest.
The Michoacan State Police later discovered Julieta’s naked body not far from the clinic, near a gas station. Her severed head was found a few feet from her body.
The Michoacan state prosecutor’s office is currently holding Sebastian as he is being investigated for the alleged murder of his sister.
The brutal crime has drawn parallels to another grisly incident in San Mateo Atenco, State of Mexico, in October 2022. In that case, a man identified as Lev Norman was arrested with the severed head of Lucero Yazmin in his backpack. Norman, found covered in blood and under the influence of drugs, confessed to the crime and led police to Yazmin’s body.
Mexico faces a high rate of murders and femicides, with government figures indicating an average of 10 women or girls are killed daily by intimate partners or family members.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind Julieta’s murder or if there are any other suspects involved in the case.
The Michoacan state prosecutor’s office has not provided any further comments on the case. Details are still emerging, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full story.
