Newlywed Couple Fatally Shot in Local Bar

In the early hours of February 1, 2024, a newlywed couple was shot dead at the Sports Page Barr in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

The victims, Gina Weingart, 37, a bartender at the establishment, and her husband, Emerson Weingart, 33, fell prey to a brutal act of violence. Authorities have since apprehended a person of interest.

Walworth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire at the Sports Page Barr shortly after midnight. Upon their arrival, they found the couple fatally wounded.

The incident has left the quiet community of Elkhorn stunned, as such violent events are uncommon in the area. The Weingarts had recently started a new chapter of their lives, having married in June 2023. Gina was employed part-time at the Sports Page and Emerson often accompanied her during her late-night shifts.

Jordan Barr, the proprietor of the bar, expressed his profound sorrow on Facebook. He remembered the Weingarts as cherished friends and valuable members of the Sports Page community and denounced the act as cowardly.

Elkhorn police have been working meticulously on the case. On Monday, they revealed a major breakthrough, announcing the arrest of a person of interest related to the double homicide. The individual, however, was detained on a different charge, and the investigation into the motive and details of the shooting continues.

The authorities are yet to establish whether the shooting was a targeted attack or a random act of violence, leaving the motive behind the tragic incident unknown at this time.

Emerson’s brother, Leland Weingart, shared the family’s despair, stating, “We are all just devastated right now and pray that Emerson and Gina get the justice they deserve.”

The Elkhorn Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
