Prominent Hollywood Music Producer Shot and Killed 

A 27-year-old homeless woman, Kayla Delise Mackie, has been charged with the murder of prominent Hollywood music producer William James Edwards III, 46.

On January 25, 2024, Edwards was shot while inside his vehicle on the 2600 block of 29th Street, near Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, California. 

He was discovered in grave condition and passed away shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Mackie faces allegations of attempted murder and second-degree robbery related to other incidents.

A day after the incident, she was apprehended in West Los Angeles, facilitated by crucial witness accounts. 

The precise motive behind the fatal shooting of Edwards remains under investigation.

Edwards’ influence in the music scene was extensive, having contributed to numerous projects as well as managing a recording studio in Hollywood. He was renowned for his work with artists such as Travis Scott and Lil Cobaine,

His name also appears as a producer on the 2018 film “Haunting on Fraternity Row,” among other short films. 

Tributes from peers, such as rapper Lil Cobaine, have flooded social media, commemorating Edwards as not just a colleague but as family, celebrating a nine-year relationship filled with significant moments and shared experiences.

In response to the incident, Santa Monica Mayor Phil Brock expressed his deep sorrow and shock over the violent act that has deeply affected both Edwards’ family and the Santa Monica community. 

Brock praised the swift action of the local police in capturing the suspect, underscoring the city’s commitment to combating violence, particularly gun violence.

Edwards is survived by his wife and two young sons. 

A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated in Edwards’ memory, highlighting his remarkable talent and achievements. This campaign aims to offer financial support to his family during this challenging period.

Mackie is currently detained on a $2 million bond at the Century Regional Detention Facility, awaiting her court appearance on March 21. 

Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward in hopes of providing closure to Edwards’ family and friends.
