Thomas Kingston, a prominent British financier, and husband to Lady Gabriella Windsor, was found dead in Gloucestershire, England on February 25, 2024.

At 45 years old, Kingston was well-known for his significant achievements in the finance sector and his connections within the British Royal Family. His marriage to Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, a first cousin to Queen Elizabeth, and his past relationship with Pippa Middleton, sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, highlighted his integration into the UK’s high society.

Emergency services arrived at Kingston’s residence shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 25. The cause of his death is currently undetermined, with officials reporting no suspicious circumstances or involvement of other parties. An inquest is expected to follow, a standard procedure in the UK for sudden or unexplained deaths, to ascertain the cause of death.

Kingston’s career was distinguished by his directorship at Devonport Capital, focusing on financing for emerging-market businesses. His previous roles at Schroders Asset Management and Voltan Capital Management in London underscored a successful trajectory in finance. Kingston held a bachelor’s degree in economic history from the University of Bristol and was a Chartered Financial Analyst.

In addition to his finance career, Kingston notably worked with the Foreign Office on a conflict resolution project in Iraq in 2003. This role involved securing the release of hostages in Baghdad, showcasing his dedication to international diplomacy and peacekeeping efforts.

Kingston’s marriage to Lady Gabriella Windsor was a notable event on May 18, 2019, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The wedding saw attendance from numerous royal family members. Kingston and Lady Gabriella’s engagement was announced in September 2018 following a romantic proposal on the island of Sark, one of the Channel Islands.

Kingston’s death has deeply affected his family. A statement from the Kingston family conveyed their deep sorrow, describing Thomas Kingston as an “exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him,” and requested privacy during their mourning period.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson from the palace announced that the King and the Queen are aware of Thomas’s passing and share in the mourning with Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, along with everyone acquainted with him, over the loss of a dearly beloved family member. They especially extend their deepest sympathy and prayers to Gabriella and the Kingston family.

Thomas Kingston’s contributions to the finance industry and efforts in international conflict resolution mark his legacy. As the Kingston and Windsor families mourn, the impact of his work and the memories of his character will be remembered and cherished.
