A confrontation within a family in Urbana, Illinois, resulted in the death of 26-year-old Montoria Samuels after a physical altercation with her 15-year-old sibling on February 25, 2024. According to police reports and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, the altercation began inside the family’s home on Rainbow View Street, where an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. During the struggle, Samuels was subdued by the teenager in a chokehold, causing her to lose consciousness.
Other family members present contacted the 15-year-old’s mother, who showed up and called 911.
Urbana Police Department officers arrived with Urbana firefighters and EMS and found Samuels critically injured.
