Prince Harry found out his sister-in-law Kate Middleton has cancer the same way the rest of us did – by watching it on TV. This really shows the gap between Harry and the royal family these days.
Kate, the Princess of Wales, shared her challenging diagnosis with everyone through a very personal video on March 22, 2024. She explained that she started chemo as a precaution after abdominal surgery. At first, doctors thought it wasn’t cancer, but later tests proved otherwise, so now she’s receiving treatment.
Her announcement touched a lot of hearts, and support came flooding in from all over the world. Big names like U.S. First Lady Jill Biden and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau showed their support too, which just goes to show how much people care about what happens to the Royal Family.
Prince Harry and Meghan, even though they’re doing their own thing in California after leaving royal life behind in 2020, made a point to send their best wishes to Kate. They hope she gets through her treatment smoothly and with privacy.
But the fact that Prince Harry had to hear about Kate’s situation on TV just highlights how rocky things are with the Royal Family. The Times UK and The Post said there wasn’t a heads-up for Harry and Meghan.
A royal expert, Richard Fitzwilliams, thinks that maybe this tough situation could help mend fences in the family, but he’s also realistic about the trust issues and communication gaps that need to be worked on.
“A serious illness can change everything and bring families together,” he said. “This may happen. Harry will return to see his father and perhaps the brothers will see each other.”
This isn’t the only health scare for the royals recently. King Charles III shared his own cancer news not too long ago, after being operated on for prostate issues. Although he has not disclosed what kind of cancer he has, it was reported that it was not prostate cancer. It’s been a reminder that the Royal Family faces personal challenges just like the rest of us.
Despite the hurdles, Kate is staying positive, focusing on her well-being with the support of Prince William and their kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis.
“I am well and getting stronger every day,” Middleton said in her March 22 statement, “by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body, and spirits.”
Her courage and the family’s unity are really shining through, showing the strength of the monarchy even in hard times.
