An investigation is underway after the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered inside the Moxy Boston Downtown hotel, located at 240 Tremont Street in Boston’s vibrant Theater District, law enforcement officials confirmed on Monday, February 26.
The Boston Police Department responded to the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m. following a report of two deceased individuals found at the location.
Upon arrival, officers pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. A law enforcement source disclosed that the deceased were a man, 43, and a woman, 25, though their identities have not been publicly released.
The Moxy Boston Downtown, part of the Marriott International chain, is known for its modern amenities and proximity to several of Boston’s key attractions, including Fenway Park, Boston Common, and a range of art galleries and theaters. Despite the unsettling events, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden reassured the public, stating it was “way too early to tell” if foul play was involved in the deaths and that there was no immediate cause for public concern.
Concern among hotel guests grew as news of the investigation spread, with some seeking additional information about the safety implications of the incident. The medical examiner’s office was seen removing the bodies from the hotel around 3 p.m. on the day of the discovery.
According to reports, both people had been shot, with a gun found at the scene. Authorities have not suggested a suspect or disclosed if one of the victims may have been responsible for the shooting. Autopsies have been scheduled.
Guests at the hotel, like Samantha Poorman from Michigan, expressed shock and concern over the incident. “This is insane. I mean there is no soundproofing in those rooms either, I mean I listen to the people next to me who watch movies all night. So the fact that nobody heard anything…,” she said.
Marriott, the hotel’s owner, has yet to comment on the situation.
