C.J. Snare, the dynamic frontman and a founding member of the esteemed rock band FireHouse, died at 64. The band announced the news on their official Facebook page, marking the loss of their “brother” and a “rock and roll warrior” on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Emerging during the glam metal era that defined much of the late 1980s and early 1990s, FireHouse quickly became a significant force on the music scene. The band, formed in the mid-80s, saw co-founder Snare, drummer Michael Foster, bassist Perry Richardson, and guitarist Bill Leverty rise to fame with their self-titled debut album in 1990. This album catapulted them into the mainstream, achieving double platinum status in the United States. Their success was further solidified by hit singles such as “Don’t Treat Me Bad,” “Love of a Lifetime,” and “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” all of which showcased Snare’s distinct vocals.

Despite the music industry’s evolution from glam metal to grunge in the 1990s, FireHouse maintained a loyal global fan base, particularly in Asia, continuing to tour and headline hard rock festivals. Their adaptability was evident in their 2011 album “Full Circle,” which featured re-recordings of their classic hits, demonstrating the band’s enduring appeal.

In addition to his vocal duties, Snare contributed on keyboards for seven of FireHouse’s albums, showcasing his musical versatility and integral role in the band’s sound, which masterfully blended hard rock with power ballads.

The challenges Snare faced with his health became public in September 2023 when he announced a temporary hiatus from the band to recover from abdominal surgery. His recovery journey and optimism for a return to performing were shared with fans through social media updates. In March, he conveyed his eagerness to get back on stage.

However, Snare’s health battle was more severe than many were aware. His daughter later disclosed that he had been fighting Stage IV colon cancer since September 2020, a struggle that ultimately led to his passing from cardiac arrest. This revelation highlighted Snare’s resilience and dedication to his craft as he continued to perform and connect with fans despite his diagnosis and the challenges posed by his treatment.

In a heartfelt tribute to their friend and bandmate, Firehouse expressed sadness, extending their sympathies to “the Snare family, Katherine Little, friends, and all our cherished fans globally. “Reach for the Sky, CJ! Family, friends, fans, and your fellow band members will eternally miss you. Now, you’re performing with the angels.”

Snare is survived by his three children, who, along with the entire Snare family, the band, and fans around the globe, mourn the loss of a musical icon.
