A mass shooting at the Craig Ranch Villas apartment complex in North Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday night, June 24, 2024, left five people dead and a 13-year-old girl critically injured. The suspected gunman, 47-year-old Eric Adams, took his own life on Tuesday morning when confronted by police.
The North Las Vegas Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 10 p.m. at the complex on Casa Norte Drive. Upon arrival, officers found two women dead from gunshot wounds, identified as Damiana “Anna” Muñoz, 59, and Amy Muñoz, 40.
During the investigation, officers discovered 13-year-old Olivia Muñoz with critical gunshot injuries. She was rushed to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where she remains in critical condition.
Further investigation led officers to a nearby apartment where they found three more victims: two women in their mid-20s and a man in his early 20s, identified as Kayla Harris, 24, Harris’ girlfriend, 22-year-old Jeannette Faria-Webster, and Christopher Damian, respectively. All had died from gunshot wounds.
A manhunt for Adams ensued overnight, with authorities labeling him as “armed and dangerous.” The search ended just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday when police received a tip about Adams’ whereabouts at a business in North Las Vegas. Upon arrival, officers saw Adams, armed with a firearm, fleeing into the backyard of a home on Dwayne Stedman Avenue.
Officers followed him and gave verbal commands to drop the weapon. Adams refused and subsequently died by suicide.
Sal Muñoz, Damiana Muñoz’s ex-husband and Amy Muñoz’s father described his devastation upon receiving the news. “I’m heartbroken,” he said. “This is not right. He killed innocent people.” After learning about the incident, Muñoz, who lives in New Mexico, immediately drove to the Las Vegas Valley.
Munoz revealed that his granddaughter Olivia may have brain damage and is fighting for her life. He mentioned that Adams was a neighbor who often asked his ex-wife for rides to work. “That gentleman used to ask my ex for rides because he would run late for work,” Muñoz explained. He added that his daughter Amy had recently graduated from a program to become a respiratory therapist and was excited to start her new career. “She was trying to get her license to get certified and start working,” Muñoz said.
Salvador Munoz Jr., also known as JR, Sal Muñoz’s son, expressed the family’s profound grief. “It just tears our family apart,” he said. He described his mother, Damiana, as someone who moved from New Mexico to help Amy with her children. Inspired by her mother’s struggle with COVID-19 in 2021, Amy pursued a career as a respiratory therapist. Her son Christopher was studying at UNLV to become a physical therapist.
JR also mentioned that Olivia remains sedated in intensive care after surgery. The family had planned a candlelight vigil outside the apartment complex to honor their loved ones.
Court records show that Adams had a history of domestic violence. In 2023, he was ordered to attend domestic violence counseling for a year, pay a fine, and complete community service following a conviction. In February 2024, North Las Vegas police issued a warrant for his arrest on domestic violence charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, but the case was dismissed in April. Adams’ criminal record also includes a 2007 arrest for robbery and assault.
A neighbor, Dasia Cullins, expressed shock and disbelief, saying, “You’re supposed to feel safe here, and you don’t feel safe anymore.”
Police have described the shooting as an “isolated incident” and are continuing to investigate. They have urged anyone with information about the crime to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department.
