Drunk Employee Brings Severed Arm to Work

Early Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, in Dallas, Texas 31-year-old Juan Morgan Munoz was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence, striking a pedestrian, and then proceeding to his workplace with the victim’s severed arm in the passenger seat of his vehicle.

Dallas Police reported that the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Storey Lane and I-35E. Munoz, who was already on probation for two prior DWI convictions, reportedly hit a pedestrian while driving his white BMW. Rather than stopping to help, he continued driving to his job at Maaco Auto Body Shop, approximately a mile from the crash site. His manager confirmed that Munoz was not expected to work that night.

Munoz called 911 more than 30 minutes after the incident. When officers arrived at the body shop, they discovered the BMW with significant damage to the front passenger windshield and blood inside the vehicle. An entire human arm was found on the front passenger seat.

Despite claiming he had only consumed one shot of Patrón at a Hooters in Grand Prairie earlier that afternoon, Munoz exhibited clear signs of intoxication. Officers noted his glassy eyes, slurred speech, and the strong odor of alcohol. He failed all field sobriety tests, and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.179, more than twice the legal limit.

In addition to the alcohol, Munoz admitted to having cocaine in his system. He was booked into Dallas County Jail on charges of felony DWI and collision involving death, with the potential for additional charges pending.

This incident adds to a grim record for Munoz, who has prior DWI convictions from New Hampshire in 2018 and Fort Worth in 2023. His latest actions have sparked outrage and highlighted ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and the effectiveness of current probation measures.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office has not disclosed the pedestrian’s identity yet. The community remains in shock over the gruesome nature of the accident and the apparent disregard for human life displayed by Munoz.

Authorities continue investigating the incident, and Munoz remains in custody with a bond set at $135,000.
