Princess Anne, the 73-year-old sister of King Charles III, was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol after suffering head injuries and a concussion following an incident at her Gatcombe Park estate on Sunday night. According to Buckingham Palace, the injuries are consistent with an impact from a horse’s head or legs, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.

The princess, known for her equestrian skills, was reportedly taking a stroll on the estate when the accident occurred. Emergency services treated her at the scene before transporting her to the hospital for further observation. She remains under medical care as a precaution but is expected to recover fully. Her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, expressed gratitude for the medical team’s care and the well-wishes they have received. “We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far,” Laurence said.

Princess Anne’s children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, were also at the estate during the incident. King Charles III has been informed of his sister’s condition and, along with other royal family members, sent his “fondest love and well-wishes” for her speedy recovery.

Due to her injuries, Princess Anne has canceled her upcoming weekly engagements, including a state banquet and a trip to Canada. This is a significant change for the princess, who is known as one of the hardest-working royals. Last year, she attended 457 engagements, more than any other royal family member. Her spokesperson stated that she apologized for any inconvenience caused by her sudden absence but emphasized that the decision was made on her doctors’ advice.

The accident has caused concern and brought attention to the princess’s long history with horses. Anne, an accomplished rider, won the individual European Three-Day Event at Burghley in 1971 and represented Great Britain in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Despite the risks, she has remained passionate about horse riding, participating in the King’s Trooping the Colour ceremony earlier this month.

This incident is the latest in a series of health challenges faced by the royal family. Recently, King Charles III revealed his cancer diagnosis, which has required him to reduce his public engagements. Princess Anne was crucially supportive during this period, stepping in for her brother at various official functions.

Princess Anne’s recovery is being closely monitored, and she is expected to be discharged later this week. The palace’s follow-up statement reassured the public that she is in “a comfortable condition” and is expected to recover fully.
