A fatal shooting outside the Academy Sports + Outdoors Store at Festival Centre in Mobile, Alabama, on July 4, 2024 has left the local community in shock. The incident occurred around 4:54 p.m. when multiple gunshots were fired in the store’s parking lot.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim, 22-year-old DeShaun Bonner, with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the chaotic scene: “I was sitting in my car, and all of a sudden, I heard gunshots. I saw a bunch of guys running around just shooting at a vehicle,” he said. The witness estimated that around 15 to 20 shots were fired by four or five men armed with handguns.
Shortly after the incident, Mobile Police discovered a silver sedan parked outside the Springhill Medical Center emergency room with its emergency flashers still on, which they believe to be connected to the shooting.
Police released a photo of a male suspect believed to be one of the shooters and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him. No suspects have been named so far, and the investigation remains active. The police have urged anyone with information to contact them.
The Academy Sports + Outdoors store has also reiterated its commitment to the community, supporting the authorities during the investigation. As the investigation continues, the Mobile community remains on edge, seeking answers and hoping for swift justice for DeShaun Bonner and his family.
