Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare that left him hospitalized for 20 days in April 2023. Foxx, 56, known for his roles in “Ray” and “Django Unchained,” recalled the experience to patrons at a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona, explaining how a simple headache escalated into a life-threatening condition.
On April 11, 2023, Foxx developed a severe headache and asked a friend for an Advil. Shortly after, he lost consciousness and remained unresponsive for 20 days. “I don’t remember anything,” Foxx said in a widely circulated video. “I’m in Atlanta, they told me… my sister and daughter took me to the first doctor. They gave me a cortisone shot.”
The health crisis occurred while Foxx was filming the Netflix action comedy “Back in Action” in Atlanta, Georgia. Corinne Foxx, his 30-year-old daughter, shared the news of the medical emergency on her Instagram Story the following day, requesting privacy and prayers. She stated, “Fortunately, thanks to swift action and excellent care, he is already beginning to recover.”
Foxx’s condition improved later in April 2023, but he chose to keep the specifics of his illness private. In an emotional Instagram video posted in July 2023, he explained, “I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear an update but to be honest with you, I didn’t want you to see me like that, man. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
He did not disclose the exact nature of his illness but described it as a “hellish” experience. “I’m thankful and finally starting to feel like myself after an unexpected dark journey,” he shared, expressing gratitude for his support from fans and loved ones.
Throughout his recovery, Foxx relied heavily on the support of his family, particularly Corinne and his sister, Deidra Dixon. “They kept it airtight, they let nothing out, they protected me. And that’s what I hope everyone could have in moments like these,” Foxx said.
In the months following his hospitalization, Foxx gradually returned to public life. He resumed filming “Back in Action” with co-star Cameron Diaz in January 2024, with a body double filling in during his absence. A source shared with the media, “For Jamie, the show must go on, and he has always been eager to see this project completed. Jamie is super talented and loves his work. He will finish this film.”
Foxx’s health scare also sparked conspiracy theories, including claims that the COVID-19 vaccine was responsible. Foxx dismissed these rumors, stating they were “completely inaccurate.”
Foxx is on the road to recovery and has resumed his professional activities. “Back in Action” is in post-production and set to be released by Netflix on November 15, 2024.
