A body has been recovered from the Great Miami River in Middletown, Ohio, concluding a search that began over the weekend. The Middletown Police Department confirmed that first responders were dispatched to the 4400 block of N. Verity Parkway on Sunday, July 7, at approximately 3:45 pm after a report of a body in the river.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 19-year-old Justin Lewis, Jr. Preliminary findings suggest that the cause of death is drowning, though the exact manner of death remains under investigation. The coroner’s office and the Middletown Police Department are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This discovery follows reports from Saturday about a teenager who went missing after being seen entering the river at Miami River Park. The police had issued a warning on social media, advising the public to stay away from the area on Saturday as the search efforts intensified.

Justin Lewis had reportedly entered the river on Saturday evening, sparking a multi-agency search operation. “We were hopeful for a different outcome, but tragically, Justin’s body was found,” said Middletown Fire Chief Paul Lolli. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The search involved several local agencies, including the Middletown Fire Department, which utilized various resources to locate Lewis. Firefighters and police officers combed the riverbanks and deployed boats to scan the water. Their coordinated efforts underscore the community’s commitment to bringing closure to the young man’s family.

Residents have expressed their sorrow over the loss. “It’s heartbreaking to see such a young life lost this way,” commented a resident who wished to remain anonymous. “The river can be very dangerous, and this is a stark reminder of that.”

Local officials have also issued a reminder about the importance of water safety, especially during the summer months when river activities increase. They emphasized the need to be cautious when near or in bodies of water and to always follow safety protocols.

Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Middletown Police Department.
