Reality Star Passes Away at Home in Freak Incident

Keke Jabbar, a notable figure in the reality TV scene and a resident of Huntsville, Alabama, has passed away at the age of 42. Jabbar was a beloved personality on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) series “Love & Marriage: Huntsville.” The news of her passing was first confirmed via a family statement read out by blogger Marcella Speaks, during a YouTube livestream on July 2, 2024.

“It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Keke. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love. She was a mom, a sister, and a great friend full of life, love, and laughter. She will be sorely missed, and at this time, we are asking for respect and privacy in our moment of grief while we process this great loss,” the statement read.

Na’Keisha Dawson-Jabbar, better known as Keke Jabbar, was celebrated for her lively personality and her straightforward presence on the reality show. The program features the lives of three African-American couples in Huntsville, Alabama as they navigate their relationships and business ventures in the real estate sector. Despite the dramatic nature of the show, Jabbar’s familial warmth and affection were evident, making her a favorite among viewers.

A close family friend, JoAnn Jenkins, revealed that the cause of Jabbar’s death was carbon monoxide poisoning. Jenkins addressed rumors surrounding her sudden passing, stating, “Keke did not overdose; Keke did not take her own life. Keke loved life and wasn’t ready to leave her children or her family.“ Jenkins clarified that Jabbar fell asleep in her car due to a vehicle malfunction and was discovered unresponsive by her husband in their garage.

LaTisha Scott, Jabbar’s cousin and co-star, utilized social media to express her sorrow and request privacy during this challenging period. “This is hard for our Family!!!!! At this time we are asking for RESPECT, and PRIVACY in our moment of grief, while we process this great loss,” Scott posted on Instagram.

In one of her last social media updates, Jabbar celebrated a significant event in her family’s life, posting pictures from her eldest son Amaree’s high school graduation. “My firstborn graduated from high school yesterday, and it was such an emotional experience. I didn’t expect 18 years to go by this fast! We’re so proud of you, Amaree. Go shine like the star you are!!!” she wrote, highlighting her deep affection for her children.

Jabbar was not just a television personality but also a writer, editor, and professor. She regularly shared her accomplishments and those of her family on social media. Her roles in education and motherhood were fundamental to her identity, making her death a significant loss to those who were familiar with her.
