Two Georgia firefighters, Chandler Kuhbander and Raegan Anderson, former high school romantic partners, were discovered dead in Cocke County, Tennessee almost a week after they went missing. The discovery was made on June 30, 2024, concluding a search spanning multiple states and involving numerous law enforcement agencies.
The Hinesville Police Department announced that the bodies of Anderson and Kuhbander, along with Anderson’s car, were found on Hollow Road in Cosby, Tennessee approximately 400 miles from where they were last seen. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation into their deaths.
Both firefighters were last seen on June 24. Anderson, a dedicated Liberty County Fire Services Station #1 member in Midway, Georgia, was captured on surveillance footage at a gas station. Kuhbander, a senior firefighter with the department, was last seen leaving a gym in Savannah, Georgia on the same day.
Their disappearance followed a series of troubling events. Anderson and Kuhbander had a seven-year tumultuous relationship that began in high school. They had recently broken up in 2023, and Anderson had been arrested on June 22 for confronting Kuhbander during a date with another woman at Olive Garden Restaurant and vandalizing his car. She was charged with second-degree criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.
Jane Kuhbander, Chandler’s mother, expressed deep concern for her son’s safety in the days leading up to the discovery. She mentioned that Anderson had threatened to harm herself multiple times and that her son might not have been with Anderson willingly. “He was telling me she was blowing up his phone, and he said that she had threatened that she was going to commit suicide. And it’s not the first time she’s done it,” she added.
The bodies were found in Anderson’s black 2017 Ford Focus with Georgia license plates. The vehicle had been spotted in various locations, including Savannah and Richmond Hill before it was found in Tennessee.
The Liberty County Fire Services released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of their colleagues. “They put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County. Our prayers, and those of the department, are with the families during this most difficult time,” the department wrote on Facebook.
An autopsy has been planned to determine the exact cause and manner of their deaths. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the final movements and circumstances that led to this outcome.
Their community, colleagues, and loved ones deeply feel the loss of Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander. Those who knew them will remember and honor their dedication to their roles as firefighters and to serving the public.
