A day meant for relaxation turned into a heartbreaking ordeal for the family of Tuan Baldino, a 35-year-old fitness coach from Paramus, New Jersey. Baldino disappeared while swimming in the Mad River at Warren Falls, Vermont on August 10, 2024 and was found dead four days later.
Baldino, who was well-known in the fitness world as the owner of Fitness Gainz Academy in Bergen County, New Jersey, had gone for a swim on a Saturday afternoon in the popular Cascades section of Warren Falls. However, what began as a routine swim quickly turned dangerous. The fast-moving, high water proved too much for even someone of Baldino’s physical capabilities. He was reported missing soon after.
The Vermont State Police launched an extensive search operation, but the treacherous conditions of the river forced them to periodically suspend efforts.
The search came to a devastating end on Wednesday afternoon when Baldino’s body was recovered from the Mad River.
“The Vermont State Police cautions the public to expect continued hazardous conditions even after the area re-opens to the public, and to avoid swimming or jumping into the river,” the Vermont State Police stated, emphasizing the persistent dangers posed by the swift currents and debris in the river.
Baldino’s death, though untimely and tragic, is not being treated as suspicious. According to the Vermont State Police, the body was transferred to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington, Vermont, for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. While his death is a blow to those who knew him, the investigation thus far shows no signs of foul play.
Friends and clients of Baldino remember him as a man who dedicated his life to fitness and helping others achieve their personal health goals. He held an associate’s degree in exercise science from Bergen Community College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kean University. He used his knowledge and passion for fitness to run Fitness Gainz Academy, where he trained clients both privately and at various gyms in the area.
Baldino’s influence extended beyond his professional life. In April 2018, he took to Facebook to share a message of positivity with his friends and followers: “Always remember to appreciate what you have and not what you don’t have. You only get one life to live. So live your life abundantly with no regrets.” These words now resonate deeply with those who knew him, serving as a reminder of the vibrant and optimistic man they have lost.
As the community comes to terms with Baldino’s sudden passing, they are left with the memories of a man who lived his life with passion and purpose. His legacy in the fitness world and the lives he touched will continue to be felt long after his passing.
Baldino’s body, once identified through the autopsy, will be returned to New Jersey, where his family, friends, and clients will have the opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to his community.
