Acclaimed actor Randal Malone passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 66. Malone’s family confirmed that he had been battling kidney disease. His death occurred at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California.

Malone was born on May 29, 1958, in Owensboro, Kentucky. His early involvement in the entertainment industry was evident from a minor uncredited role in the 1972 film, “The Marshall of Windy Hollow,” where he worked with renowned Western actors Ken Maynard and Tex Ritter. This marked the start of his career in the industry.

Upon earning his theater degree from Murray State University, Malone pursued his interest in stage performances. His debut in a production of “Annie Get Your Gun” garnered attention, leading him to Los Angeles, where he established a unique position in the entertainment world.

Malone gained mainstream recognition in the 1990s through his role on MTV’s dating show “Singled Out.” He became well-known for his portrayal of “Film Star Randal Malone,” a male version of Norma Desmond from “Sunset Boulevard.” The host of the show, Chris Hardwick, noted that Malone’s character was among the most humorous aspects of the show.

Malone also had a notable career in low-budget films, particularly in the horror genre. He had roles in various films, including “The Triggerman” (1997), “Vampire Femmes” (1999), and “Dahmer vs. Gacy” (2010). Reflecting on his love for acting, Malone once said, “Being given the opportunity to act in a film is one of the greatest blessings. I savor every chance I get to play such a game.”

Malone also made significant contributions to Hollywood’s philanthropic endeavors. As president of the Southern California Motion Picture Council since 2004, he was instrumental in its charitable activities. He collaborated with Johnny Grant, often called the “Mayor of Hollywood,” to secure stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was a strong supporter of the Motion Picture and TV Fund.

Malone’s personal life mirrored the vibrancy of his career. He was known to be friends with icons of Hollywood’s Golden Age such as Lucille Ball and Ann Miller. His extensive collection of Hollywood memorabilia, featuring rare and candid photos of elusive stars, demonstrated his deep passion for the history of the industry. “I know more than any of the other so-called ‘experts’ about old Hollywood because I didn’t read or write about it; I lived it,” Malone once asserted.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley; his brothers, Donald and James; his sister, Allison; and his partner of 38 years, Michael Schwibs. Plans for a memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy are currently underway.
