In the early hours of August 1, 2024, authorities in El Paso County, Colorado arrested Jorge Meza Alarcon Jr., 26, after he allegedly strangled 18-year-old Annabelle Floren Wyant to death in his home. The two had reportedly connected through Snapchat, leading to a fatal encounter that has shocked the community.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. from a concerned friend of Wyant. The friend had dropped her off at Alarcon’s home on Halleluiah Trail earlier that night to collect money from him in exchange for “explicit services” offered via a premium subscription not officially recognized by Snapchat.
Before meeting the suspect, Wyant felt uneasy and described him as “weird” to her friend. Concerned for her safety, she asked her friend to check on her in 90 minutes.
The friend became worried after failing to reach Wyant for over an hour, prompting him to request a welfare check. When deputies arrived at the residence, they discovered Wyant’s body inside Alarcon’s bedroom. Blood was found near her ear, and her pants and underwear were pulled down to her ankles.
The suspect was apprehended approximately 3 to 3.5 miles from his home near Meridian Road and Rex Road in El Paso County. According to the arrest affidavit, he initially told investigators that the victim had agreed to meet up for “adult entertainment” purposes. He claimed that after the encounter, she struck him with a phone, causing him to black out. Alarcon said he regained consciousness several miles away from his home and then called 911 to report the alleged assault.
However, in a later interview, the suspect changed his account. He claimed that he had become paranoid during the encounter, fearing that she and a possible accomplice in an idling car outside were planning to harm him. Alarcon, who claimed to have martial arts training, said he put her in a leglock before transitioning to a D’arce chokehold. He demonstrated this maneuver during the police interview, explaining that he knew Wyant was likely dead because “you only have 2-3 taps in you” with that hold.
Alarcon was subsequently arrested and taken to the El Paso County Jail, where he remains held on a $1 million bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on August 8. The case has drawn attention for its disturbing details and Meza-Alarcon’s previous run-ins with the law. Earlier this year, he was arrested for strangling a dog to death and disposing of its body in a dumpster, a case that adds a shocking dynamic to the current charges.
Wyant’s death has raised questions about the dangers of online interactions, where individuals can easily conceal their true intentions. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will emerge soon.
